How can I stay out of the Met Gala, an annual pageant where hundreds of beauties and beasts are released to please or shock the world. Have you had the experience of buying a piece online that you thought would look really good on you but which turned out to be a total disaster? That’s exactly what happened to Rihanna, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Kardashian and so many brave celebrities who had the gut to try. The results for the above mentioned three are fried-egg dress, crazy-looking, Chinese-style, out-of-no-where hair piece, and embarrassing body exposure. But why is it so difficult to look like the ensemble your stylist almost killed himself/herself trying to sell it to you? Why what seemed to be good idea turned out to be so hilarious when you are on the red carpet?
Carolina Herrera is good. But what are the added dark red hair pieces and cheap-looking jewel in front of the bosom and around the waist? What would Schiaparelli say if she saw a middle-aged Chinese woman desperately in a dress that’s almost too tight for her to breath, or stand straight? How would the Givenchy designer would react upon seeing, well, this?
What went wrong? Mismatch is the problem. If you do not grow to be like a sketch, if you do not have the waistline, the air, the height, the weight, the boobs, the hair to match the piece you intend to wear, don’t wear it. Rihanna’s fried-egg dress look hilarious on her because she doesn’t look right in the piece. Also because the gold color is made to look somewhat dirty and soiled. Kim Kardashian’s body is made to look vulgar in that scarcely-pieced-together dress that can barely cover her end. She looks more like a glamorous prostitute than a fashionable star. I don’t even want to talk about Jessica Parker. Choose clothes wisely. Don’t make yourself a joke so overtly.
The good news is, there are people who tried and succeeded.
Thanks to them my passion for couture has not perished after seeing the horrendous pictures before them. It’s so hard to look like the ensemble. So don’t overdo it. Please look yourself into your mirror and convince yourself first that you look really good in that. Then hear what people who are not afraid of offending you have to say, before if step outdoors on a wonderful day only to humiliate yourself.
